How much recovery time is recommended before returning to work after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

I recommend my Brazilian Butt Lift patients take 2 weeks off work to recover from surgery. I really don’t like for you to sit or lay on your butt for 2 weeks after fat grafting. This gives the fat time to ā€œtake.ā€ Fat is living tissue that requires a blood supply. It takes about 2 weeks for that blood supply to be established. Until then, the fat is vulnerable. 2 weeks will also give you time to follow up in our office and most patients are well past the point of requiring narcotic pain medication.

Can you have a Brazilian Butt Lift a year after having abdominal Liposuction?

Q: I am 5’10 and 180lbs. I really want to have a BBL, but I had abdominal lipo a year ago. I am extremely unhappy with the lipo results because I still have a belly and I wasn’t fat to begin with. Although I’m not huge, I believe I have enough fat throughout my body to transfer to my butt. I was told I was too thin by one dr, but would like to get other opinions. Thanks!

A: It is possible to have a Brazilian Butt Lift even though you previously had liposuction, but it can be tricky. Secondary liposuction is typically more difficult than the first procedure due to scar tissue. Also, there will, of course, be less fat to harvest. Depending on the look you are trying to achieve (i.e., how big you want your butt) it may still be possible. Try getting a second opinion from someone who has performed a lot of fat grafting procedures.

Q: I want an hourglass figure. I am fully aware that with my wide shoulders and no hips, I will need to add a lot of fat to the hips. I also want a butt! Im concerned that there is not going to be enough fat to accomplish this or that there is a limitation as to how much can be taken out. Ideally, i would like about 1100CCs per buttock. To accomplish the hourglass figure, there is about 1.5 inch difference so that my shoulders and hips align.

A: 5000 cc is the maximum amount of fat (and fluid) that can safely be harvested in one liposuction procedure. I have frequently transferred over 1000 cc of fat into each buttock and/or hip. I certainly understand the balanced, shapely look you are trying to achieve. In my Atlanta area surgery center, I tell my patients that I cannot guarantee a volume of fat that I am going to transfer. The butt can only hold so much fat and I cannot predict just what volume that will be before surgery! Talk to your surgeon about the look you want. Bring wish pictures and look at your doctor’s before and after pictures. Look for someone with a lot of experience with fat grafting to the butt and hips and who seems to understand the look you are going for.

I’m 50 years old and considering Brazilian Butt Lift.

I’m 50 years old and considering Brazilian Butt Lift.

Q: I’m concerned harvesting fat from my abdomen and flanks will result in sagging skin. I’m relatively fit … 5’5″ 130 pounds. Any advice? Thanks so much!

A: Sounds like you are in great shape. Pictures and an exam to determine your skin elasticity would help. Sagging skin is a potential risk after liposuction. Skin loses elasticity (bounce back) as we age. Removing a large amount of fat from a particular area also increases the risk of sagging. Having stretch marks in the area also increases the risk. At your weight you may not have huge fat stores – but that’s impossible to tell without seeing you. I have performed many Brazilian Butt Lifts on women in their 50’s with great outcomes. It sounds like it is time for you to seek a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. He or she will be able to give you more personalized advice

Is it possible to have the fat from tummy tuck injected in butt for touch at the same time?

Is it possible to have the fat from tummy tuck injected in butt for touch at the same time?

Q: I had a bbl and now I plan to do a tummy tuck due to loose skin with breast lift with implants to restore volume 4 months after.

A: The simple answer is yes. Liposuction can be performed along with your tummy tuck (this is called lipoabdominoplasty) and that fat can be injected into your buttocks even if you have had a previous Brazilian Butt Lift. Keep in mind that you will need to stay on your side for 2 weeks during your recovery since you shouldn’t lay on your front due to your tummy tuck and breast lift or on your back due to your butt fat injections.
