Lip Augmentation Surgery
What is Lip Augmentation Surgery?
Lips tend to thin out due to the natural aging process. Lip enhancement is a procedure that provides you with fuller lips. There are several different ways to enhance the lips, including lip injections using natural or synthetic fillers, lip implants, lip lifts and even permanent makeup. Another procedure is called vermillion advancement, where the colored portion of the lip is cut and stretched, then re-sewn to give the impression of larger lips.
It’s important to note that using synthetic fillers requires repeated injections over time as the lips will lose their fullness.
Lip Augmentation Procedure Steps
Costs can vary based on individual patient needs and the amount of surgery required. The costs involved in this procedure include facility/hospital fees, medical tests, anesthesia fees, Dr. Jimerson’s fee and any medication or post-operative garments that may be required. Head: Lip Augmentation Candidates
As with most elective cosmetic procedures, there are several basic criteria that determine if you’re a good candidate for the lip augmentation surgery. They include:
- You are insecure about the appearance of your lips
- Aging has caused the lips to shrink and lose volume
- You enjoy relatively good health without any medical conditions that could jeopardize your healing or present surgical risks
• You’re a non-smoker (smoking can impair the healing process), and you have realistic expectations on what the surgery can do for you
Lip Augmentation Risks and Safety Information
If you have nonsurgical augmentation like injections, your recovery time is minimal There may be some bruising or swelling, but this will subside rather quickly. Lip filler injections require only a topical anesthetic at the most and there is little or no downtime. If you have an implant there will be swelling, bruising and discomfort for several days. Cold compresses will help to reduce your swelling and pain, and you may be placed on a liquid diet for 1-2 days. You will need to restrict your activities for a week or so after the surgery.
You will be able to return to work one week after your implant surgery, and stitches will be removed in 4-6 days. Stitches inside your mouth will dissolve in the same time frame.
Lip Augmentation Results
Results from fillers are immediate. If you have fat injections, you may require multiple injections in order to achieve permanent enhancement. Some synthetic fillers require repeat injections every three to six months, but others may last up to one year.Lip implants, lip lifts and vermillion enhancement provide permanent results.
Lip Augmentation Procedure Steps
For fat transfer enhancement, you will have liposuction done at a donor site, like your abdomen or thighs, which will be processed and then injected into your lips. There will be a small incision made at the donor site, and the fat will be extracted through a cannula. You may need several different injections to achieve the results you want.Synthetic fillers are injected directly in the lip to give it volume. One treatment is enough, but it will be temporary and require repeated injections.
Another option is a dermal graft, where a fat graft is taken from deep layers of your skin and then placed under the lining of your lip. All incisions are done inside the mouth.
If you’re having a vermillion advancement, an incision is made on the border of the colored portion of your lip, then raising the border to increase the area of the lip.
Lip implants are usually done through tiny incisions inside the corner of your mouth, with different natural or synthetic implant options available. You can discuss the options with Dr. Jimerson at your consultation.
A lip lift involves an incision made under the nose, where the skin is shortened in order to pull up the lips. If you have a mouth that turns downward, small incisions are made on the side of the mouth and excess skin is removed. The incision is closed using very small sutures.
