Laser and Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction

What is Laser and Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction?

Overview

For years, traditional liposuction was used to sculpt the contours of the body into a more pleasing, youthful appearance. Now there is assisted liposuction, using laser and ultrasound, for a more precise approach to reduce fullness in various areas of your body.

These areas include the abdomen, arms, buttocks, face, hips, knees, neck, thighs and waist. Laser and ultrasound assisted liposuction is used

when exercise and diet won’t help remove fatty areas, like saddlebags or a paunchy stomach.

It should be noted that these procedures are not intended to be used for weight control or to treat obesity.

Liposuction

Some women experience vaginal relaxation which can lead to an enlarged vaginal opening and less friction during sex.  Vaginal rejuvenation (or vaginal tightening) is a surgical procedure to reduce the size of the vaginal opening and tighten the interior muscles.

Are you a candidate for assisted liposuction?
As with most elective cosmetic procedures, there are several basic criteria that determine if you’re a good candidate for facelift surgery. They include:
You have problem fatty areas like saddlebags or a paunchy stomach
You enjoy relatively good health without any medical conditions that could jeopardize your healing or present surgical risks
You’re a non-smoker (smoking can impair the healing process), and you have realistic expectations on what the surgery can do for you
Cost for Assisted Liposuction
Costs can vary based on individual patient needs and the amount of surgery required.

The costs involved in this procedure include facility/hospital fees, medical tests, anesthesia fees, Dr. Jimerson’s fee and any medication or post-operative garments that may be required. Our staff will provide you with a detailed cost estimate for your procedure.

The Recovery Process
Following your procedure, there will be some discomfort and swelling. The pain can be controlled with the medication prescribed by Dr. Jimerson. Following the procedure you may wear a compression garment to make the healing go faster. While each patient is different, you may be able to return to work within a few days.

During the recovery, your skin may tighten up as new skin layers grow. This process may continue for up to six months. But be ware that the body will not recreate the fat cells that are removed; so if you gain weight, the fatty deposits will not expand in the areas where the liposuction was done.

One of the advantages of assisted liposuction over traditional liposuction is that it can be done under sedation rather than general anesthesia. You’ll also have less trauma to the liposuction site and smoother skin results from the procedure.

The Procedure
You will discuss various anesthesia options with Dr. Jimerson, including sedation and general anesthesia. He will determine the best type of anesthesia based on the procedure, your health history and his preferences.
For traditional liposuction, local anesthesia and saline is given where the liposuction is performed. The anesthetic also helps t o minimize bleeding. Dr. Jimerson then uses a small, hollow tube called a cannula, which is inserted in a small incision beneath the skin to break up and vacuum out the fat deposits.

For assisted liposuction using ultrasound, a special vibrating cannula is used. The ultrasonic waves helps to liquefy the fat cells, which are then suctioned from the body. For laser liposuction, a thin laser is inserted through small incisions on the body. The laser is used to melt the fat in where the fatty pockets occur, and after it is melted the fat is sucked out using a cannula.

Risks involved in assisted liposuction
As with any surgical procedure, there are some potential risks or complications. You have to determine if the benefits that you’ll obtain from your procedure outweigh the risks involved.

Dr. Jimerson and his trained staff will do everything possible to minimize risks and postoperative complications. Risks may include:

  • Bruising  • Bleeding  • Infection • Scarring •Numbness • Skin burns
  • Swelling

It’s important to discuss any concerns you have with Dr. Jimerson prior to your surgery. If you have a question – please ask!

Meeting with Dr. Jimerson
Prior to assisted liposuction you will have a consultation with Dr. Jimerson. This is an important appointment, as it will give you an opportunity to ask questions about the procedure and what you can expect from the procedure.

He will discuss you specific goals, take a medical history and review your current medications. Photos are usually taken, both before and after the surgery.

You will also be able to learn what options are available to you, along with the risks and possible complications of the procedure.

Questions to ask Dr. Jimerson
During your appointment, it’s good to ask Dr. Jimerson questions about your procedure.

Here are some questions to consider:

– What surgical technique is recommended?

– How long will the recovery period be for my surgery?

– What risks are associated with my surgery?

– What type of complications can happen?

– When will I be able to see the results of my surgery?

– Do you think that I’m a good candidate for this procedure?

Bes sure to ask any other questions you have about Dr. Jimerson, the procedure or anything else that concerns you about your surgery.

Assisted liposuction procedure preparation
What happens prior to assisted liposuction? You will have lab tests, and the doctor may have you take new medications or adjust the medications that you’re currently taking.

If you smoke, you must stop several weeks prior the surgery, as it can severely impeded the healing process.

Finally, you should arrange to have someone available to drive you home after your surgery, and to be with you for the first night.

Results
Assisted liposuction results are long lasting. Results will be seen immediately following the procedure, but swelling will distort the actual results. It will take several months for the swelling to subside in order to see the final results.

Be sure to follow Dr. Jimerson’s instruction following your procedure to obtain optimal results. Avoid excessive force, motion or abrasions during the healing process, and wear clothing that does not have to be pulled over your head.
