Spider Vein Treatment

Spider vein causes and treatment

Overview

Spider veins are small clusters of red, blue or purple veins that can be seen on the calves, thighs and ankles. They can be noticeable at a young age, or they can wait to present until much later.

The cause of spider veins can be from hormonal changes, heredity, prolonged sitting or standing, pregnancy and major changes in weight. Sclerotherapy, or spider vein treatment, is a safe and relatively painless treatment to reduce spider veins.

Here at CurveLife we offer many weight management options for you to get the body you want. We offer rapid Body Sculpture programs and we also have the ability to freeze your fat with our Coolsculpting machine. In addition, we offer metabolic testing so you can check your specific resting metabolic rate.

Are you a candidate for spider vein treatment?
As with most elective cosmetic procedures, there are several basic criteria that determine if you’re a good candidate for spider vein treatment. They include:

  • You’re bothered by spider veins on your body
  • You enjoy relatively good health without any medical conditions that could jeopardize your healing or present surgical risks
  • You’re a non-smoker (smoking can impair the healing process), and you have realistic expectations on what the surgery can do for youAre you a candidate for spider vein treatment?
The Recovery Process

There are some very specific instructions to follow during your recovery from spider vein treatment. Your treated areas will have bruising and you may feel some cramping for a few days after treatment.

You may be required to wear support stockings for up to six weeks. You’ll need to avoid sitting or standing on one place for an extended period, and you should also avoid squatting, heavy lifting and running.

During the first month, your bruising will diminish. You’ll be able to resume your normal activities, including exercise. You should still avoid sitting or standing in one place for more than an hour or two.

Two months after your procedure you should be completely healed. You’ll be able to wear all types of clothing, and determine if you need any additional treatment.

The Procedure

The process begins with injections. A special solution will be injected into the problem veins. This will irritate the vein, causing the vein to collapse over time and fade from view. If there are multiple spider veins involved, you’ll have multiple injections.

After the injection you may have compression tape, stockings or an elastic Ace bandage applied.

Another option for treatment is laser. An intense laser light is directed at the spider veins, which passes through the skin and obliterates it.

It may take several laser session to obtain the results you desire. Laser may be used in combination with Sclerotherapy.

Results

You will be able to see improvement of your skin after each spider vein treatment. Because new spider veins may evolve, further treatment may be necessary.

Be sure to follow Dr. Jimerson’s instruction following your procedure to obtain optimal results. Avoid excessive force, motion or abrasions during the healing process, and wear support stockings or other compression garments if advised.
