Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

What is fat transfer breast augmentation?

For women who only desire a relatively small increase in breast size and prefer the a more natural feel than typical breast implants, then a fat transfer breast augmentation is the procedure of choice.

Instead of using a synthetic breast implant like saline or silicone, the fat transfer breast augmentation surgery utilizes the patient’s own fat, using liposuction to draw the fat from other areas of the body. If a more substantial increase in size or shape is desired, then a traditional breast augmentation procedure is recommended.

Are you a candidate for fat transfer breast augmentation?
As with most elective cosmetic procedures, there are several basic criteria that determine if you’re a good candidate for a fat transfer breast augmentation procedure. They include:

  • Your weight is stable
  • You’re unhappy with the appearance of your breasts or feel that they’re relatively small in size
  • You have realistic expectations on what the surgery can do for you
  • You’re a non-smoker (smoking can impair the healing process), and you have realistic expectations on what the surgery can do for you
Cost for fat transfer breast lift surgery
Costs can vary based on individual patient needs and the amount of surgery required. The costs involved in this procedure include facility fees, medical tests, anesthesia fees, Dr. Jimerson’s fee and any medication or post-operative garments that may be required. If a tissue expansion process is used prior to the surgery, then additional costs will apply. Our staff will provide you with a detailed cost estimate for your procedure.
The Recovery Process
After your fat transfer breast augmentation, you’ll have gauze dressings and elastic bandages applied to reduce swelling and bruising. The areas where fat was taken via liposuction will have bandages on them as well. The biggest advantage of the fat transfer breast augmentation is that it is minimally invasive – your recovery will be quick. The donor areas of your body will have a compression garment placed on them to reduce swelling. You may need to have this on for up to 3 weeks.

Dr. Jimerson will prescribe pain medications to keep you comfortable after the procedure. He will also discuss when you can drive, exercise and resume normal activities and exercise.

You will be given specific instructions on how to care for your breasts following your surgery. Swelling will present for a few weeks following your breast augmentation procedure.

The Surgery
You will discuss various anesthesia options with Dr. Jimerson, including sedation and general anesthesia. He will determine the best type of anesthesia based on the procedures, your health history and his preferences

As this procedure doesn’t require any major incisions, the surgery is less invasive than other breast augmentation procedures. Several different small incisions are made in various areas of the body in order to place a special cannula inside for the liposuction portion of the procedure. Using specific motions, Dr. Jamison will draw out fat using the cannula. The fat is processed, then is reinjected into each breast. If there is slight asymmetry in your breasts, this can usually be corrected.

Bandages are placed over the injection sites and the liposuction sites, and you begin your recovery. You will be able to see the results almost immediately, but swelling may last several weeks before you get a true picture of how the fat transfer breast augmentation has changed the size of your breasts.

Fat transfer breast augmentation surgery preparation
What happens prior to the fat transfer breast augmentation surgery? You will have lab tests, and the doctor may have you take new medications or adjust the medications that you’re currently taking. If tissue expansion is used prior to the procedure, it is done to help expand the amount of skin on the breast areas. A silicone balloon is placed underneath the skin on the breast and is slowly filled with saline over time. This causes the skin to stretch out and grow. The fat transfer will fill this expanded skin allowing you to have larger breasts when the procedure is completed.
Results

You can expect to see results from your fat transfer breast augmentation surgery immediately after the procedure. This will improve over time as the swelling reduces. The small incision lines used in the liposuction will continue to fade over time.

While a fat transfer breast augmentation is a long-lasting procedure, factors like aging, weight change, gravity and hormonal changes can change the appearance of your breasts. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can also alter the appearance of your breasts. Stay fit and maintain your weight after your procedure.

Be sure to follow Dr. Jimerson’s instruction following your procedure to obtain optimal results.
